Statement Mystory History Prior to
diagnosis, this disease became an epidemic by merely expressing these
ideas to my friend and bantam Frank. Ingredience used Frank's and my own
brain as incubators. The symptoms were obvious, we were talking about
starting a magazine called Ingredience. Everyone we talked to became infected
including Bizhan, a local graphic designer. By January '03 the magazine
was availible to the public, Ingredience was holding weekly open mics
and monthly magazine release shows. As a result, more doors were opening
in Richmond for hip-hop. Ingredience is a disease that attaches to the
belief system. The people in Richmond were changing the the way they viewed
hip-hop. Summer '03:
my band Tiger Bomb spread the disease to about 35 states on tour. When
we returned in the fall, hip-hop had taken over Richmond. October '03: Ingredience
began another incubation period in my thoughts. I locked myself in my
house and made endless phone calls. Tickets were dropped off via UPS.
Bizhan and Lindsay, now a design team, would periodically stop by with
500, sometimes 800 flyers at a time. Jason and others would pick up tickets
and flyers, but I wasn't sure why. Ingredience had stopped filling me
in altogether. Then one
day I find myself mindlessly collecting tickets, which is insignificant,
until Bizhan and Lindsay run in, apologizing for being late, and hand
me a box of programs for some sort of festival. The program boasts of
$2,500 prizes for MC, DJ, B-boy/girl battles and a poetry slam, 20 bands,
15 local artists, 10 workshops, massage therapy and soul food in the basement,
and at that moment I smelled it, the food! A volunteer relieved me from
the door and suggested I introduce the first band. -Rasul the Nobody Ingredience
